Lisa Kelley

Lisa first learned to weave with me during our Textile Thursday classes held at my studio and production space in Frankford. She started by creating smaller tapestries and this scarf you see in process that is first woven and then crocheted. It’s is a multi process experience showing the student the power of creating ones own color story by using our scrap yarn method in both structures and then finishing it with a twisted fringe. Lisa has gone on to do a beautiful community project called Epidemic. In this process she allows healing by those affected from the opioid crisis by writing whatever messages they have to heal for a lost loved one, themselves their family they may not be in communication with, and then it gets woven into the body of the tapestry. This all white paper weaving project brings hope and sheds light on those affected by the opioid crisis here in Philadelphia.
